Texas, Part I

Let me start off by saying Jet Blue is my new lover. These were the BEST flights I've ever had...childless or not. And to top it off, they were the cheapest tickets as well. I also loved the Long Beach airport...small and easy to get in and out of. Jet Blue definitely has my business from now on. The kids got to watch SpongeBob and iCarly, Jehremy got to watch Saturday college football games and I got to watch HGTV shows the entire flight. That's better than being at home on a Saturday!

Our 1st event was a boat/ferry ride along the Lady Bird Lake to view the bats at Congress Avenue Bridge. Every night, 1.5 million bats come out from under the bridge to feed on 10,000 to 20,000 POUNDS of insects. We picked a night with an amazing sunset. Once the sun went down, it was much cooler and turned into a relaxing evening. It was really a highlight of our week.

Below is the skyline of downtown Austin. We absolutely LOVED Austin. The 2nd picture shows a closer view of Frost Bank Tower. The story told is that a Rice University graduate designed the building to resemble an owl...his alma mater's mascot. The building/owl "overlooks" the Texas University Campus. We found this much more amusing than our UT-alum tour guide :)
